    Not learning anything of use.
Alan reduces the most complex issues of our time into 5-20 minute sound bytes, because he bypasses any explanation of "X" belief/theology and jumps straight into practical application of "X" belief. Sound logic cannot be built on unexplained premises. But if you want to feel a sense of martyrdom, listen to the latest episode (3/14/24) in which Alan compares declining to attend a gay wedding to... refusing to worship idols? As in, the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego who decided to die rather than publicly bow down to an idol. Not sure how that comparison follows.

My new favorite podcast for 2024
Short but very informative on questions I’ve thought a lot about but are rarely addressed straightforwardly. Learning from this podcast will make having discussions about difficult issues so much easier. Thank you Alan and Stand to Reason!

    Clear thinking, concise points
I love Alan’s ability to take difficult, controversial issues and present them clearly, analyze them from a biblical perspective, and provide concise points to make his case. So helpful!

    Helps me to think clearly!
I love how Alan takes apart the rhetorical slight of hand and breaks it down so that we can clearly see the failures of bad thinking. I always start out thinking, “Ok, I know what they’re saying has to be wrong, but it sounds very persuasive. How can I understand this correctly?” And by the end I’ve said, “ Aha! That’s so simple!” I love this podcast, but I have to admit that I very often have to listen to an episode more than once or twice to fully understand what’s going on. What Alan lays out is important and I want to make sure that I really understand what he’s saying. Tl;dr: Alan Schlemon is a sharp cookie who is also winsome and friendly. He’s ruthless with ideas and gentle with people. I’ve met him. He’s just as nice in person.

    More!
Great posts; to the point, well thought out, biblical. I just wish Alan’s schedule allowed him to post more often.

Simple flat and often wholly inaccurate responses to challenging issues
Shlemon offers simple, flat ,and often inaccurate responses to some challenging topics. He speaks as if he has THE truth, but the information he offers, in particular when discussing human sexuality, is extremely limited. He tries to fit a Christian ethic of human sexuality into texts written millennia ago rather than broadening an informed view to see the fullness of the texts that were authored when human understanding of sexuality was near to nothing. He then passes on this limited and woefully inaccurate perspective on to young audiences. His chapter on transgender issues in a book he contributed to is the WORST and most inaccurate singular chapter on trans issues that I have read. Quite an accomplishment since I read widely on this topic. I have no opinion on the other topics he speaks on.

    Outstanding
These are short and digestible insights. The biblical and philosophical perspectives can be complex. But Alan has a way of making them accessible. The only thing I would improve is the frequency. I want more posts more often.

    Use Proper Terminology
Your message on June 11th was very eye opening and informative. I learned a lot. The only problem I had (and like a lot of others), is the terminology you used to describe men who love other men instead of a woman. I listen to a lot of semons from men of God both today and in the early 20th century. One of them is Dr. James Dobson, whom we all respect. Many of these men of God, when they deliver a message use the word "Gay" to denote someone who is happy (as explained in the original Webster's dictionary),. In fact Dr. Dobson last year devoted an entire broadcast to educate us all on how society and the "new" culture are taking words from the dictionary and redining them to meet their agenda. Case in point. Gay is happy, not a term to describe a homesexual. Homesexual is a term to describe a man who loves other men sexually. Dr. Doson goes on to say that society has been reconditioned to reword our language to accomodate the minority. Many people today are so afraid to offend anyone and therfore water down God's Word. We can be kind to everyon but don't compromise God's Word. Romans 1:16 Your conversation with Alan Shlemon was excellent except for the compromising on the verbage of Gay vs Homosexual. Not sure yet whether I'll contunue to listen to this podcast in the future. Thank you.
